A Double Shot of Meme Action

February 22nd, 2008 · 12 Comments · Meme

As I mentioned back last time I was hit with a meme it was a sister double team effort. Well, here I am to finally finish off that tag….

Six Quirky Things

Dlyn from http://dlynz.blogspot.com/ hit me with this…

Rules: Post 6 quirky things about yourself. Tag 6 people, leaving a comment on their blog so they know and posting a comment here, so that I know I can come and see how quirky you are.

  1. I wonder about foolish imponderables. We will be driving along the highway and I will turn to my wife and drop something like, “I wonder how many plastic water bottles/beer bottles/soda cans litter the side of the average highway mile”.
  2. As I confessed to Quirkee.com, I am a noisy eater.
  3. I am a pacer. Our house has a floor plan such that you can do laps around the first floor. When I am on the phone I go round and round and round and round and…
  4. I am a grub at heart, yet I can be high maintenance when it comes to personal grooming products.
  5. I am a spendthrift. If left unchecked I could impulse buy our family into oblivion.
  6. I have a bit of a John Henry complex when it comes to snow removal. I would, with limited exception, rather shovel myself into the ground before I let a snow blower do the dirty work.

Alright, that’s that.

Dlyn’s sister Weezee hit me with the other part of that double team with the Page 123 meme that’s going around. I was re-hit with it by Soapbox Mom, with a slight twist. Forget the nearest book and grab the book of your choice. Since I am such a nice guy I decided to accept the tag. Here goes…

Rules…

1. Find the book closest to you (with at least 123 pages).

2. Open it to page 123.

3. Find the fifth sentence.

4. Post the next three sentences.

5. Tag five people and post a comment here after you post it to your blog, so others can read it (including me!).

To document what a freak I am I choose the following book:

It’s a book on the history of Australian Rules Football. Ready to be riveted?

The resources of the British Empire were to be thrown into the war against German, and the most precious and immediate commodity Australia could provide was men. Patriots demanded that all men eligible to enlist should do so. There were undeniably ‘eligibles’ among football players and supporters, and the game’s high profile made it the ideal arena in which to appeal for reinforcements.

Oh, in case you were wondering, the war in question is WWI.

Why is a born and raised Bostonian reading scholarly histories of Austrian Rules Football? I am just that messed up.

Well, there they are. I am going to be wet blanket-y here and not tag anyone on this one. I just can’t be bothered to troll my blog roll and reader lists to see who hasn’t been tagged recently. Plus, I have some snow to shovel.

Unbelievable. You and my husband must be separated at birth. He is the ultimate phone pacer. Round and round the first floor, back and forth from the front window to the back porch…constantly pacing. I don’t know what he would do if we had the kind of phones we grew up with. He would need one long-ass cord.

The way you came full circle today - tying the end of your blog with the 6th quirky fact - positively inspired.

    Don’t think I don’t notice these things!

PS: I’m a Montgomery Inn Barbecue fan myself. Though “salad’s got nothin’ on this mutton.”

Sometimes I actually get out of breath from all the pacing I do while on the phone..
#5-My husband is the same exact way, so much so that he told me yesterday he saw a sauna in BJ’s that he wants to get for the backyard. WTH?

I am incessant ponderer too. I have this stupid habit of when I’m doing something unusual and suddenly wondering how many other people in the world are doing the same thing at the exact same time. I always think, “oh, there’s got to be SOMEONE else doing this.”

    Sorry, I’ve said too much.

    Cool memes!

And yes - I’d rather shovel and rake than snow blow and leaf blow.

    (That sounds kind of kinky.)

With me, it’s a noise pollution issue. I moved to the country for peace and quite; otherwise I would have just stayed in Center City Philly.

You ARE a nice guy, PG. Thanks for playing.

Er, I have to admit, though…I won’t be picking up that book any time in the near future (but, hey, I’m way impressed that you’re interested in such a relatively obscure topic!).

Like Rick, I like the way you tied in quirky fact 6 with the end of your post, too.

Oh, and I do the number 1 thing, too (ponder life’s imponderables). Like, who comes up with these memes, how many of them are there and will they ever stop?

Love the 123 Meme.I had to post it on my blog……..

    As for quirks……..
My husband paces when he talks on the phone as well…………..maybe it’s a guy thing, cause most women like to settle in and get comfy for a long chat on the phone.
We could be talking for HOURS you know!

Hey PG I forgot I tagged you for this. Great job.
But I have to say when you get closer to 50 you will change your mind about that snowblower. :)
Get ready to shovel again tomorrow, another storm’s a-comin!
