Well before (several months before) I started my blog, I turned 35 years old. On my 35th birthday I took stock and wasn’t all that thrilled at the state of my body/fitness/health/etc. I made a pledge to myself that I would be fitter at 40 years old than I was at 35. I figured a five year plan made more sense committing to making radical changes immediately.
Well, a year has passed. I have made some good choices and solid progress. If I keep up this pace I will definately reach my goal of being “Fitter @ 40″. A couple highlights of the past year….
- I have eliminated a nicotine habit! WHOOO-HOOOO! I used smokeless tobacco for years off and (mostly) on. I quit again and again, and never having a whole lot of luck making it stick. But last year on my birthday I quit… and haven’t used since. Excuse me for being quite proud of myself here.
- I have dropped about 30 pounds. I topped out last year around 250lbs. I am currently just shy of 220. I still would like to get down to about 210, but I figure I have time to do so. W8 Loss Wednesday has helped a great deal here. Doing regular weigh-ins for the world to see keeps me on track.
One year down, 4 more to go. I think I have made some solid progress and look forward to what the next year brings. It’s going to be tough to top kicking nicotine and shedding 30 pounds, but all I need to do is make progress.
You can do it too. Just start making smarter choices, it will pay off. Believe me!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!

You have no idea how many years you added to your existence by quittin’ the “pack-a-day” habit. (Seriously … you have no idea.) Regardless, you’ve added years; how many is now the question.
You are wise beyond your birthdays at setting a realistic goal of 5 years instead of 5 months. Kudos.
Now … quit killin’ your body with the late night (morning) Australian football game oogling and you could push 100 a’fore you know it.

I don’t think I ever admitted to you just how yucky I found that paper cup you used to drool into on the way home from school to be.
Or how nervous I was that you would spill its contents.
So congrats on quitting! Well done!
