A couple people have recently asked me questions about the nuts and bolts I use to post content (specifically video) to this here peach of a site. So, following a lead from Joe over at joeprah.com I will share my details. Take from it what you will…
Blog Platform: I am self hosted using WordPress. I never gave any other platform so much as a second thought. That was mostly ignorance when I jumped it. I already had the site and WordPress was included in the package from the host. I like WordPress and would recommend it to anyone who is looking to start up a blog, or change from Blogger. You can have them host at WordPress.com, or download it for your own site at WordPress.org.
Web Host: So, we know now that I am self hosted (not on WordPress.com). I am hosted by LunarPages. I have only been with them since the beginning of the year, but have had zero issues. I have had good hosts and bad, and having a good host is so nice. Lunar is a good host (Thanks to Quirkee.com’s James Grayson for the tip).
Video Host: My primary video outlet is Blip.tv. I love Blip for it’s high quality video, ability to seemlessly integrate it into my site and personalization options. It’s free, and pretty easy to get going with blip. If you want to produce video content regularly I would strongly recommend it. I also upload most of my videos to YouTube simply because it’s, well, YouTube. I have heard from a few people who have had problems with the blip videos so YouTube gives them another option.
Video Camera: I shoot with a Sony DCR-SR40. Never imagined I would be creating video content for the web when we got it, but it has served me well. It’s all digital, no tape, mini-dv or dvd. Records to a hard drive built into the video camera.

Video Editing: I do all my editing with Windows Movie Maker. It’s limiting sure, but it serves me well. I would love to have a more powerful video editing tool, but I am too cheap to go out and get one (Anyone from Adobe reading this? Send me a copy of Premiere!).
Well, that’s the scoop on my tools in general and video tools specifically. I didn’t discuss photo tools, you can see a bit about what I use on my Project 365 page.
What do you use? I’d love to hear about it.

I love stuff like this. That camera needs a picture of your littlest girl in that screen. Premiere is buggy as heck. All tools have their upsides, WMM gets the job done and its not buggy because its so simplistic. Thanks for the Blip idea, I have some stuff there but totally forgot about it. They are much more clear, and that is braggable. Peace!

Awesome man! Thanks for sharing this. The biggest thing that has been holding me back is the video editing piece of it. We have digital cameras with video and a separate digital video camera (that I’ve never used), and I’ve used YouTube and other sites to upload unedited videos. I’ll have to look into Windows Movie Maker though. I’m sure I’ll be dropping you a line for some more advice or tips. Thanks again! -Jeremy @ Discovering Dad

It just so happens that I have the complete Adobe CS3 Master Suite collection (which means everything).
It seems one day that the software fairy paid me a visit and left it for me… along with a cd key generator tool.
And I didn’t even have to leave a tooth!
