Still making it up as I go along

I cruised over to my site the other day and to my surprise the widget that displayed little strip of photos down the right hand side broke. The photos were no longer showing and the options for the widget was showing at the top of the page for everyone to see. I had changed nothing on the site recently, so I was at a loss as to why it broke. I Didn’t know where to begin, but I started poking around.

I still know very little about WordPress, and when I look into the nuts and bolts of it the feeling is much the same as when I look under the hood of my car. I spent way too much time trying to figure it out, and with no luck. Trying to turn a negative into a positive I decided it was a good chance to make some changes anyway.

Aside from upgrading to the most recent version of WordPress (which was more work than it should have been), I started looking into some prefab themes that are out there for WordPress sites since I was not crazy about the really generic default look and feel that I was still using. I decided that the theme you are looking at is the winner, hope you like it.

On the widget front, I have settled with the photo widget you see to the right. It has it’s pros and cons. It is a bit sharper looking, has a little zoom effect; but it just pulls the most recent pictures I have uploaded to flickr (the old one would pull random pics). Maybe this will make me more pro-active in uploading pictures to flickr anyway.

If you are a WordPress/WordPress plugin guru and know how to make the flickr widget installed display random pics, let me know. If you know what happened to the old one (it seems that another site I have seen it on has taken it down too), again, let me know. I know that i can get the code for the flickr badges right from flickr, but I don’t know exactly what to do with them. I like it when others do the work for me!

The new one I have installed is Flickr Badge Widget by Erik Rasmussen.
The old one I had installed is Flickr Badge Widget by Ben Coleman.

I guess I could contact those guys too, but Erik is getting married today I guess, he might be a bit busy.

In case you were wondering, the banner picture is one I took at a Sox game last year. Gotta love Fenway. I will be looking through my photos to see if I have others that would look good in banner format.

I don’t understand any of your technobabble but the new site design looks great. Well done!
