T Minus Two Days

January 31st, 2008 · 8 Comments · Housekeeping, Project 365

As you may have seen, I announced fairly subtlety that am about to undertake a “Project 365″. I will be taking and posting (at least) one picture every day for the next year. This Saturday, Groundhog Day, it starts. I thought Groundhog Day would be a good day to start something that I will be doing every day for the next 365 days straight.

Now, I am no photo-pro. I am still not entirely used to shooting anything other than portraits of the kids. So don’t expect art. I am sure that once in a while I will capture something good. Hey even a blind squirrel… right? On a good day maybe I will be struck by the muse.

I think that I will take a self portrait once a month, and maybe feature the kids once every other week or so. Part of this is to chronicle my year and see changes etc, so it only makes sense. Other than that I have no plans, I will just shoot what jumps out at me. I am making it up as I go along!

I have never been an active picture taker (notice I didn’t use ‘photographer’, that implies some skill) so I wonder if I will get any reaction. If I have my camera with me while just running errands and something strikes me, will people have a problem with me taking pictures around town or have questions, just think me weird, ignore me? I don’t know. I guess I will find out. I look forward to it, and I also am a bit intimidated by the task.

So watch this space for my offerings.

welcome to the game. and yes, you’ll get looks and questions. i carry my bulky d80 EVERYWHERE, and i am often asked why i’m taking pictures of (insert random objects or food items here). it is definitely a big commitment but it is well worth the effort. i can’t wait to see your pics.

I like to take photos but not a professional. I do get stares when I take pictures everywhere.

    Good news / bad news:

Good: You’ve inspired me again - I am embarking on a Project 365 of my own. Setting up a blog, capturing 365 memories? Anticipation sets in.

Bad: On my ride in to work this morning I began to realize just how nondescript life is around here. 365 pictures of this? Panic sets in.

I would have to actually drag my ass in to the city. Not quite as much to look at in my two bit little suburb!
