Boston From Great Hill (361/365)

Project 365 // Day 361

Went over to the old neighborhood today and took some shots of Boston from Great Hill Park in Weymouth.

It’s about nine and a half miles as the crow flies from the Boston skyline to where I was standing.  The water in the foreground is Quincy Bay and the houses are a part of Quincy called Hough’s Neck. The next stretch of water is Boston Harbor, then comes South Boston and finally Downtown.

The large group of buildings to the right of the frame is The Financial District, downtown Boston, the two tall buildings to the left are the Prudential Tower and the Hancock Tower in the Back Bay section of  Boston.

The map below shows the relative locations of where I was shooting from, Downtown and Back Bay.

  1. Did I ever tell you I was in Boston once? It was in the late 80’s during the worst heat wave of the century. I took a Girl Scout troop there by Amtrak. We stayed at the dorms of Boston College. The heat in the elevator was stuck ON, so every time we left the building, with the heat from the elevator and the heatwave, we were soaking wet with perspiration by the time we got to the street.

Oh, and I and one of the other adults went down the street to the laundromat to wash clothes. While we were there, a firetruck went by. We jokingly said to each other “I hope that is not going to our building.” Guess what? it did.

We did have fun and we did see a lot of stuff, but boy was it ever hot, even for a girl from Atlanta.
