Under Appreciated & Underutilized (335/365 v2.0)

Project 365 // Day 335 v2.0

335/365 v2.0 (by Pat Glennon)

Here’s my crazy idea. Cease production of one dollar bills. Replace with dollar coins. Ramp up production of two dollar bills at the same time. The world would be a better place.

OK, so I just made that up seeing that I had nothing else to post and I saw both a two dollar bill and a dollar coin laying around so I threw them into the light box.

Still I am a fan of the dollar coin.

  1. There’s a small Vermont T-Shirt store just outside Stowe on the road from Waterbury that always makes change with 2 dollar bills, SBA dollar coins and JFK half dollars.

Considering the kids don’t want to spend that novelty money, it’s almost as though they didn’t get change…

  2. Hate the coins. Hate coins in general. Never carry any.

On the two dollar bill front. Clemson has quite the tradition with them. When we go to a bowl game, we bring the bills all stamped with tiger paws. By the end of the weekend, everybody in town has one (even the opposing team!).

  3. The $1 coins are more prevalent down around Washington DC, maybe because the Metro uses them. Not so up here in the Northeast. Whenever I have one in my pocket I end up confusing it with a quarter. I’ll stick with old fashion cotton (not made from paper BTW) money.

  4. Need to move to Canada – $1 coins – Loonies (have a loon on them) and $2 coins – Toonies (like two loonies). Spare change in your pocket really adds up. Brian was so used to throwing his spare change in a small container and then filling up a large container when that filled up – spare change would add up to $150 bucks every three years or so in the states. The first time I went to dump his spare pocket change into the large container, it was nearly $100 due to all the loonies and toonies. I confiscated it and spent it.
