  1. Cool! What can it do, what can it do?! (said like a clapping kid who has no idea.) I have the standard 18-55 VR and bought a 55-200 VR lens but have yet to really ‘know’ what it can do or how it compares to what you received there. Still learning this SLR stuff. *smile*

  2. being a fixed length, or prime, lens – only 50mm it’s not a multi tasker and does what it does very well. the shots you’ll get from it will be crisper than you’d see from either of your zoom lenses.

Also it opens all the way up to f1.8 so it’s better for shooting in lower light and is able to produce really shallow depth of field. producing a nice creamy out of focus backdrop on shots like.. http://www.flickr.com/photos/bostonpat/4215342364/

  3. That is a nifty fifty nikon right? I wonder if canon’s nifty fifty is better or is it the nikon brand? I heard that if you are on a full frame sensor camera, 50mm are pretty much the way the human eye sees. Whew! So much for the lenses! 🙂

  4. Kris what kind of Nikon are you using. If it is D3000 or D5000 you might want to try the new Nikon 35mm 1.8 DX format which will yield around the same 50mm Pat is using. It has auto focus and goes from 1.8 up to 22. Price is around $199 and it is incredibly sharp and great for low light indoor photos.
